March 5th. A lot of you have
been asking about the new 3rd scale Fokker D7 kit. I thought I would post
some photos before I leave next week for the
Blue Max. The top two
photos show the honeycomb material in the radiator frame. I had
some custom honeycomb fabricated as I wanted to capture that radiator
look as the radiator is a main component of the plane. I am
learning that it is rather complicated to cut, shape and fit into the
radiator frame. I will need to sort-out how to put this in the
kit, as each radiator is sort-of a custom fit. Although, it
does look pretty good. The next photo shows some freshly painted
components. The new throttle quadrant is easy to pick out.
That piece will be part of the optional cockpit kit, there are some more
pieces needed to complete that assembly which I am still working on. The seat belt plates are
common parts and the little ring fitting attaches the vertical member in
front of the compass. Some of you might not recognize this piece
but it attaches to the radiator door via a cable that the pilot could adjust
that door with this fitting. Next you see some pilot seat photos.
I ran across some rather nice seat covering material, which I decided to
use instead of the lozenge covering. You can see the small holes
in the seat back. These center holes will have pins that attached
the seat to the rear supporting post. All the holes will be precut
making the seat assembly easy and accurate. The last seat photo
shows how the stitching and fabric should look on the backside of the
seat. With the holes pre-cut for you, your stitching should look
like this. The last two photos show the ammo box. This ammo
box is different than the other Fokker planes. I used a silver
metal paint which worked pretty good.. Oh, the ammo box will be
part of the basic kit. I will take a lot of photos next week and
get them posted soon after the event. If you plan to attend please
stop by. As always any comments or questions
just email me. - Glenn |
